GitHub

GitHub provides code hosting and software development collaboration tools. Visitors can explore repositories, review changes and find project documentation or issue discussions. The website supports both public open source work and private development. Access permissions, licences and project activity should be checked when using code or deciding how to contribute to a repository.

GitHub centres on repositories and the work around software projects. A project's own repository provides its code and documentation, while issues and other collaboration records can supply context about ongoing work. The relevant project's instructions and version information are useful starting points before adapting code or participating in its development.

It is useful for investigating a particular design or software-development task. Its focus includes Code repositories, Issues and change reviews and Developer collaboration, helping a visitor identify the relevant product, technical resource or asset and relate it to the work being undertaken.

The official GitHub site includes sections for GitHub Mobile, GitHub Marketplace and Copilot.
